The yellow tracked monster | *Brand New* Ploeger MKC-4TR | coriander harvest



This is latest machine build by harvesting machinery specialist Ploeger from Holland. The MKC-4TR is a machine developed for harvesting leaf vegetables (spinach, curly cabbage) and herbs (parsley, coriander). It is fitted with four Claas Terra Trac tracks. The cab is Claas as well of course. There is also a version with 2 tracks and 2 tyres (MKC-2TR), plus a version on four axles (MKC-8TR).
We follow the brand new MKC-4TR from specialist contractor Gebr. Koster on its first field. It is seen gathering in a crop of coriander. The header is 6m or 20ft wide. Behind the reciprocating knife a flail head leaves an even stubble so regrowth can commence quickly after harvesting. The plants are blown into containers using a very powerful fan. Hook lift trailers are used to bring the containers to and from the factory. In this case a Fendt 818 Vario with home made hook lift trailer.
You might remember this video from last year: www.youtube.com/watch?v=64Bq54pGkzo. The Ploeger replaced their home made Claas Jaguar. This machine can cut more acres, has a wider working width, lower ground pressure and saves 1 man on the job.

M3 Amphibious Rig … World’s greatest pontoon bridge?



Capable of reaching high speeds over rough terrain as well as swimming the fastest rivers, the M3 Rig is undoubtedly the ultimate amphibian.
Not only does the vehicle race around on land and water, but it lets entire armies do it too. With its deployable ballast tanks and splash shield, the M3 can go from land vehicle to high speed watercraft within just a few minutes, boasting incredible performance and manoeuvrability.
Once in the water, the 26 tonne machine faces two key issues — power and drag. To combat this, the M3 boasts two water jets (one at the front, one at the rear) and a 360 degree swivable head for power assistance, as well as wheels that can be tucked in to reduce drag.
Of course, its most impressive feature is its ability to combine with one another and form a fully functioning mobile bridge. In just under 9 minutes, any number of M3s can join up and allow entire 70+ tonne tanks to cross entire rivers, before disbanding and dispersing before the enemy even has a clue they were there.

Flip Action Roll



FLIP, the FLoating Instrument Platform, is not a ship, but a 355-foot-long research platform that can be deployed for oceanographic research. Designed by scientists at Scripps's Marine Physical Laboratory, FLIP is operated by Scripps Oceanography for the U.S. Navy.
Normally docked with Scripps’s fleet in San Diego Bay, FLIP can be towed to out to sea in its horizontal position and then “flipped” 90 degrees so that 300 feet of its length are under water. This turns FLIP into a “spar buoy,” a tall, thin, weighty structure designed to be uniquely stable and resistant to wave motion.
FLIP was built in 1962 to help study long-range sound propagation for submarine warfare, but the platform has since supported research in geophysics, meteorology, physical oceanography, and other scientific fields. Its unique appearance and method of deployment have also made it a worldwide curiosity and the subject of many documentaries.

Onondaga Lake Cleanup — Sevenson's Cutterhead Dredge



A look at the largest of the three Sevenson dredges being used in the cleanup of Onondaga Lake, NY. This particular cutterhead dredge has a 1,000 horsepower pump and is pumping approximately 55 gallons per minute at 25-30 RPM.
Running 6 days a week, 24 hours a day and under supervision of New York State's Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) the Sevenson dredging team will remove roughly 2 million cubic yards of material and is expected to complete dredging by the end of 2014 (1 year ahead of schedule).
