Наиболее распространённым индивидуальным огнестрельным оружием во всех армиях мира сейчас является автомат. За рубежом его так же нередко называют штурмовой винтовкой, или автоматическим карабином.
К отличительным особенностям автомата перед другими видами индивидуального огнестрельного оружия относятся: использование при стрельбе промежуточного патрона (имеющего среднюю мощность между пистолетным и винтовочным), возможность стрельбы очередями и магазин большой ёмкости.
Широкое использование автоматов началось после Второй Мировой войны, они пришли на смену пистолетам-пулемётам, стрельба из которых велась маломощными пистолетными патронами.

Автоматы АК-47 и АКМ.
Автомат Калашникова образца 1947 г. Был создан под мощный боеприпас калибра 7,62x39 мм.
В конкурсе на создание оружия под этот новый в те времена промежуточный патрон, участвовали многие именитые конструкторы, такие: Дегтярёв, Симонов, Судаев и Шпагин, но неожиданно для всех победителем конкурса стал никому не известный инженер-самоучка М. Т. Калашников.
Свой первый опытный образец Калашников представил в 1947 г.
Но только через два года, в 1949, после целой серии модернизаций, автомат был принят на вооружение под обозначением АК-47.
И как только АК-47 был принят на вооружение, сразу же начались работы по его улучшению.
И уже в 1959 г. на вооружение был принят новый образец под обозначением АКМ («автомат Калашникова модернизированный»).

The Ultra Heavy-Lift Amphibious Connector (UHAC) begins to rotate on the beach, July 9, at Marine Corps Training Area Bellows on Oahu, Hawaii during a Marine Corps Advanced Warfighting Experiment. The AWE is the culmination of a decade of progressive experimentation conducted by the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab (MCWL) where they are testing potential future technologies, solutions and concepts to future Marine Air Ground Task Force challenges. The AWE is taking part during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2014. Lt. Col. Don Gordon, the current technology officer at MCWL, said the UHAC is one of those experimental technologies that displays a possible capability of being able to insert Marines in areas where current technology wouldn't be able to insert them based on current systems that are fielded. The UHAC prototype is a ship-to-shore connector and is half the size of the intended machine. I have known for many years the Texas clay is no joke haha. It gave us all we could handle again this year! I am still in awe the a 1.5L Kubota Diesel had no issues turning 4-60" tires in the nastiest clay ever. Unreal. A quick winch by one quad was all we need to help us along, we are having a Warn Pro-Vantage 4500lb Winch installed as we speak lol. We should have put it in 1st gear and hopped out and went and had supper and came back and it would have been out lol. Hope you guys enjoy the video! Lot's more to come

In this video I attempt to lift a 19kg (42 lbs) wheel over my head one-handed while it's spinning at a few thousand RPM. This replicates an earlier experiment by Professor Eric Laithwaite. He claimed the wheel was 'light as a feather' and could not be explained by Newton's Laws. I wanted to find out for myself what I really felt like.
