Five Russian Weapons of War NATO Should Fear

Five Russian Weapons of War NATO Should Fear

There is little question that NATO weaponry remains technologically ahead of Russian. The existence of a gap was clear in the 1980s, and the size of the gulf has grown since. However, the Russian military still commands sufficient resources, and can harness enough innovative thinking, to hurt NATO if a European dispute ever came to blows.
We hope, of course, that these weapons (and their equivalents on the NATO side) fulfill their purpose as deterrents. Nevertheless, it behooves NATO to think hard about how to solve the problems that these weapons present, especially when used in conjunction with one another.

NASA's laser-powered spacecraft will fly to Mars in 72 hours - Mars exploration compilation

NASA's laser-powered spacecraft will fly to Mars in 72 hours — Mars exploration compilation

1. NASA was forced to cancel six attempted launches of a saucer-shaped Mars landing test vehicle in early June, 2014 because of unusually strong winds at the Hawaiian test site.
2. NASA scientist Philip Lubin is working on perfecting laser technology that could propel a light spacecraft to Mars in as little as three days.
3. NASA is developing an inflatable heat shield it plans to test in 2016 that could one day be used to send astronauts to Mars.
4. Fusion rocket engines could take a manned crew to Mars in 30 to 90 days, NASA-funded scientists at the University of Washington say.
5. A NASA-funded study written by aerospace engineering company SpaceWorks says that keeping astronauts unconscious during long flights in space cuts down on the equipment and resources needed on the shuttle, and also eliminates the negative psychological effects of long hauls in space.

SpaceX DM-2 Flight Day Highlights - May 30, 2020

SpaceX DM-2 Flight Day Highlights — May 30, 2020

Almost nine years after the final space shuttle mission, SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida May 30, an American rocket launching from American soil, placing NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken into orbit in the new Crew Dragon spacecraft for their journey to the International Space Station. Some 12 minutes after a spectacular liftoff from Launch Pad 39-A, Crew Dragon separated from the second stage of the Falcon 9 rocket and Hurley and Behnken began monitoring a series of test objectives for the duration of the vehicle’s 19-hour flight to the orbital outpost in the first crewed mission for the Commercial Crew Program. The veteran astronauts are scheduled to oversee an automated docking of Crew Dragon to the station May 31 to join NASA astronaut and Expedition 63 Commander Chris Cassidy of NASA and Russian crewmates Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner.

Top 8 New Flying Cars and Air Taxis - Best Personal Aircraft ▶️ 3

Top 8 New Flying Cars and Air Taxis — Best Personal Aircraft ▶️ 3

Flying cars or air taxis and their business opportunities have recently become a hot topic. In this video, we are going to talk about the new air taxis (flying cars) which were unveiled (from 2019 to 2020). These best personal aircraft include SkyDrive SD-03, Bell Nexus 4EX, CityAirbus, Lift Hexa, Boeing PAV, Seraph, and Heaviside.
SkyDrive SD-03
SkyDrive SD-03 is a Toyota-backed flying car that is billed as the smallest electric VTOL. Equipped with eight rotors that help it fly safely even if there’s a motor failure, this one-seat SkyDrive model can fly for only five to ten minutes at a low speed of several miles per hour. The next version is expected to have a speed of up to 40 mph (60 kph) and an extended flight duration of 30 minutes. The company is currently waiting for approval for flights beyond the test field by the end of 2020, and it expects a two-seat commercial vehicle by 2023.
Lift Hexa
Hexa is an all-electric single-passenger air taxi aimed primarily at tourism and short-distance air travel. With a total empty weight of 432 pounds (196kg), HEXA can carry a 250 lb (113kg) passenger for up to 15 minutes of flight time. LIFT Aircraft is one of fifteen companies which are members of Agility Prime, the United States Air Force initiative to accelerate the commercial market for advanced air mobility vehicles.
Bell Nexus 4EX
Bell Nexus 4EX is a 7,000-pound (3.2 tonnes) air taxi that can hit speeds of up to 150mph (241kmh) and can travel up to 60 miles (97km) while carrying 4 to 5 passengers, plus a pilot.
Boeing PAV
Boeing PAV is a new-generation eVTOL passenger aircraft, or air-taxi designed and developed by Boeing for safe on-demand urban air transportation. Not much is provided about speed and payload weight, but the company says it designed for urban commutes with typical ranges up to 50 miles (80km).
Seraph
Seraph is a 12-rotor British electric flying taxi that can carry passengers and goods weighing up to 550 pounds (250 kilograms) at speeds up to 50 mph (80kmh). The Seraph was built by the company to test new technologies and systems which will be used in the upcoming passenger model, the VA-X1.
ELROY
ELROY is a flying car that is slightly larger than a compact car, but unexpectedly quiet and can fit into most garage spaces. With its high-performance electric motors, this electric-powered vertical take-off and landing vehicle can carry 2 passengers and travel at speeds up to 44mph (70km/h) with a flight time of 20 to 25 minutes.
CityAirbus
CityAirbus is is a fully electric 4850 pounds (2.2-tonne) air taxi manufactured by AirBus. The CityAirbus is autonomously piloted eVTOL and has a cruising speed of roughly 75 mph (120kmh) up to 15 minutes of flight time. Powered by four 140 kW batteries, its 4 sets of counter-rotating ducted propellers can each provide 881 pounds (400 kg) of thrust for a payload of up to 551 pounds (250 kg). The CityAirbus is the successor of Vahana the company’s first air taxi model.
Heaviside
Heaviside is a high-performance electric VTOL vehicle by Kitty Hawk. Kitty Hawk claims the craft’s electric propulsion system, tiny proportions, and aerodynamic shape make it “roughly 100 times quieter than a regular helicopter and it can cover 55 miles (88 kilometers) distance in 15 minutes while using less than half the energy of a car.”

Breakthrough Solid State Battery — 900 Wh/L Samsung [2020]
Samsung research was led by Yong-Gun Lee for an All-Solid-State-Battery (ASSBs). Their goal was to eliminate dendrites formation and increase coulombic efficiency.
To do that they sandwiched layers of Lithium Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese-Oxide (NMC for short) mixed with a Sulfide Solid Electrolytes (SSE, show formula on screen), on top of nanocomposite-layer of Silver-Carbon.
All of this is located in between a foil of Aluminum and Stainless steel as the current collectors.
The idea behind this was to remove lithium foil from the mix and have all lithium atoms part of the NMC and SSE. This approach diminishes the costs of the overall battery manufacturing since handling lithium usually needs an oxygen free environment due to its high reactivity.
This is important for a few reasons, in conventional lithium batteries, the anode comprised of lithium moves freely towards the positive electrode during discharge.
Dendrites are formed during the charging process when lithium moves back to its initial location thanks to the free movement enabled by liquid or gel electrolyte.
This is the main limiting factor of how much energy can be store in these batteries since to control this, the amount of lithium available in the system has to be caped, limiting the energy density.
