Chinese geologists have discovered huge oil reserves in the remote
prefecture of Aksu in Xinjiang province. The size of France, they
will solve the country's energy problems and provide relief well
into the next century. The Tarim Basin, of which Aksu province
forms an important section, is situated at the edge of the
Taklimakan Desert in Northwest China. It is being described as the
future North Sea of Central Asia. At 560,000 square kilometres,
the Tarim Basin contains one of the few huge oil reserves yet to
be exploited.

This is two hours time-lapse movie shoot I took yesterday (4.7.2019) as I prepare myself for a Sunday meeting with some of my friends. It was amazing to note that once a quiet place has become a busy location in just a few months stay in this city.

The highway across the Taklimakan Desert has been opened to traffic for more than two decades. The aerial footage shows how green barriers that go alongside the road are fending off the sand.

The Taklamakan Desert /ˌtæk.lə.məˈkæn/ (Chinese: 塔克拉玛干沙漠; pinyin: Tǎkèlāmǎgān Shāmò, Xiao'erjing: تَاكْلامَاقًا شَاموْ; Uyghur: تەكلىماكان قۇملۇقى; Dungan: Такәламаган Шамә), also spelled «Taklimakan» and «Teklimakan», is a desert in southwest Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, northwest China. It is bounded by the Kunlun Mountains to the south, the Pamir Mountains and Tian Shan (ancient Mount Imeon) to the west and north, and the Gobi Desert to the east.
The name may be an Uyghur borrowing of the Persian tark, «to leave alone/out/behind, relinquish, abandon» + makan, «place».[1][2] Some sources claimed it means «Place of No Return», more commonly interpreted as «once you get in, you'll never get out» or similar.[3][4][5] Another plausible explanation suggests it is derived from Turki taqlar makan, describing «the place of ruins».
