Aerovelo's World Record Speed Runs in Eta, 2015

The Eta Speedbike Project is the continuation of Aerovelo's quest to promote new ways of thinking about lightweight, efficient design. Eta's record represents the fastest speed that a human has been able to travel under their own power: breaking highway speed limits with less than 1 horsepower.

Shweeb Racer Velocity Valley Rotorua



Shweeb Racer is the world's only human powered monorail racetrack. Invented right here in little New Zealand, this racing aerodynamic pod can reach speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour if you have the leg power to match. ''Schwebe' is the German word meaning 'hanging, hovering, suspend'. The concept was taken from the efficient commuter transport in Wuppertal in Germany. However, our single man pods provide an alternative spin with pedalling gears, stop watch and a second track to race against. One of six iconic adventure activities to choose from at Velocity Valley, Rotorua, New Zealand.

It's difficult to build a working four-rotor helicopter that spans 100 feet and only weighs 80 pounds. It's even harder when your engine is a 0.7-horsepower person. But one team of engineering students is trying to do just that.
